Owing to the indisposition of Lady Normanby, it has been decided, on medical advice, that it would not be prudent for her Ladyship to leave per Arawata on the 11th, the final departure of His Excellency from Wellington has therefore been postponed until the 17th. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency report, under date London, 29th January—Wool ; There has been a little private enquiry. Trade in the manufacturing districts is dull. Up to date 95,000 bales have arrived. The wheat market is quiet—Californian arrivals heavy. Adelaide is worth 49s per quarter, and New Zealand, 445. The tallow market is also quiet; there is no speculative enquiry —mutton, 37s Gd; beef, 34s Gd. Leather, best sides, O^d. The Declaimed Land Sale was held to-day. The land consisted of 43 sections. Allotments fronting Lambton Quay fetched £63 per foot ; others from £4O to £SB ; the lowest was £3l per foot. One section, with a narrow frontage, but fair area, fetched £154 per foot. About five sections were withdrawn or bought by Government. The total proceeds of the sale in round numbers is £98,000. The purchasers are all Wellington business men—the principal ones being J. F. E. Wright, Kirkcaldie & Staines, and Johnston & Co. I'he Hons*. Jlacandrow, Stoat, Sheehan, and Ballance are expected in Wellington next week.
