D. Hamcrton, relative to Captain Wray’s property ; from Fraser and Tregear, covering tracings showing the effect of proposed alterations in Dorset and. Leicester streets, which very considerably reduce the quantity of earth to be removed, and consequently the expense.

On motion of Mr Dale, seconded by Mr Aitchison, it was resolved, That fresh tenders should be called for No. 2 contract, in accordance with the altered plans, special meeting- to be held on the 17th instant, to open tenders. The Working- Committee reported £2 4s having been spent on day labor in cutting doelcs, donning footpaths, and spreading gravel. The attention of the Committee having been drawn to the dangerous state of the bridge in Victoriastreet, repairs had been effected at a cost of £2 os. lira wiling from Meredilhstroot to Jacomb’s corner was being proceeded with at an advance of Is per load for gravel. No offer having been received during the month for work at the price which the Committee were, authorised to let it, the plans for street improvements, for which tenders had been lately called, had been reconsidered, and the Committee had decided to refer the matter to the Board before letting the work, being of opinion that slight modifications, as shown on plans, would allow of the work being done at less cost, without any detriment to the general improvement of the streets. Report was read from the Inspector of Nuisances, stating that on account of reported infections disease at a house in town, himself and the Chairman of the School Committee had visited the premises, which they found deficient in sanatory appliances—two families living in the dwelling, with no partition to allow of separate sleeping rooms for the heads of the families or their children. There was, however, no person found sick in the dwelling. The proprietor of the Albion Hotel being warned not to allow slops from his premises to drain on Taranaki Hoad, had ordered timber to form a culvert to carry water off through his own land. An oll’ensivc smell from premises nearly opposite the Town Hall, led to an examination of premises, when everything was found to he clean, though one closet was within a foot of another person’s hack verandah. On motion of Mr Dale, seconded by Mr Milroy, it was resolved , .to call for tenders, to be sent in by next ordinary meeting for all works authorised, and for which plans were prepared, Mr Hirst moved that the Working Committee be called upon to explain why so much work was done in the upper part of the town, while little or nothing was done in the lower part. The motion found no seconder. Mr W. Dale tendered his resignation as a member of the Working Committee, which on the motion of Mr Aitchison, seconded by Mr Adams, was accepted.

Mv Hirst and Mr Adams -were each proposed, but declined to act as members of the Working Committee.
