The Patea Mail. (Published Wednesdays and Saturdays) WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 22, 1879.

ITARvnF.rtNO operations nro in foil swine in a:l purls of the Cmmty. The crops are looking remarkably well, some being very heavy, ami of an even ripeness rarely to be seen. There are a consider«h!e noinber of Koapers and Binders at work, and r.s a consequence the anxiety about I‘;bor for harvesting has been much lessened. 80 fur as we can learn, the McCormk-k Reaper and Binder, of which there are three if not four in the district, is giving the greatest satisfaction. One t.'UtKV-ted by sd.!issvs iluarn and Kenneitv, of Kaknramea, started and has continued to work without a single hitch, and has cut and bound in n thoroughy satisfactory manner nt the rate of twelve acres in a w- e-king day of nine hours, with a team of three horses. Heavy, light, lay down, .or upright crops, are alike cleanly ent and 'veil bound. The rVood’s machine imported by Mr W. Derrott, Whenuakura, worked excellently well”'on the srhvut (-the cutting of which was started

on Thursday evening), nni.il Friday afternoon, when the slieaf el ip per'broke, ns reported i n Inst issue. Messrs Hunger and McGarty having repaired the breakage the same evening, the machine was again at work on Saturday, and hut for the nneveness in the quality of the wire, which occasionally caused snort stoppages, was doing good work. On the Wheimakim Block throe machines were at work within sight. We have ascertained that the following settlers have provided themselves with these useful labor saving machines : Messrs Williams and Bans (imported last year, the first intiodnced to Patea—the machine, now working well); W. and S. Gower, Whenunknra; Alexander Davidson, Whennaknra; Patrick Burke. Whonnaknrn; W. Derrelt, Whenunknra; G. Ncwhmd, Waverley ; James Dickie, Wavcrley ; Morel on and Lupton, Waverley ; Captain Walkinton, Waverley; Palmer, Waverley; Hearn and Kennedy, Kakaramea ; H. S. Peacock, Manntalii; S. B. Corrigan, Mmmtahi; Ginger Brothers, Manntalii. Machines have passed through Carlyle for Hawera, one of which was for T, Qninlivan. A machine if not already arrived, is coming for John Bonrke, Kakaramea. We should he pleased to hear from settlers who have obtained machines, whose names are not included in the above list. Captain Walkinton, S. B. Corrigan, and Hearn and Kennedy, have the McCormick machine. We understand all the machines, both Wood’s and McCormick s, arc working well.
