CARLYLE TOWN BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held in the Council Buildings on Monday evening - last. Prceent: Messrs Miiroy, (chairman), Aitcliison, Adams, Dale, ami Hirst. AI unites of previous meeting read and ■continued. Correspondence included —letter from Government Printer, that Gazettes had not been forwarded ; from G. D. Hammortuii lor ceviaiii crown grants ; from Vv. ilowitt, calling on the Board to fence — referred to Working Committee ; from if. O’S. McCarthy for permission to transfer sections 1, d, 13, and 4, Block 40, to ir. 1. Jones —granted. Tenders fur street formation and gravelling were received from John Mouri ami. J- Id. keys. There being a difference of opinion as to wheiber or nut any of the tenders sent in shoniu ho accepted, tiie following motion ■was moved by Air Hirst, seconded by Mr Adams, “ That the tenders for formation of roads uhl footpaths, as per contract No. 2, be not accepted.'* Amendment by Mr Dale, seconded by Air Miiroy, was lost on division, “That the tender of Mr Monri be accented lor No 2 contract.” Ayes— Miiroy,* Dale. Noes—Aitcliison, Adams, Hirst. The original motion was therefore carried. . Proposed by Air Dale, seconded by Air Aitcliison, and carried on division, That the Working Committee be empowered to let foi ination contract No. 2, at a price near tlie Muginccrs estimate. Proposed by Air Aitchesnn, seconded by *Alr Adams, and carried, 11 That the tender of Air Leys for gravelling be accepted conditionally that the Working Committee let-•tli’e -foiination contract within one inontlfiffdmdatc.” Proposed by Air Dale, seconded by Nlr Aitclnsoli, and carried, “ That a telegram • lie forwarded to the Hon Commissioner of .Customs asking that regulations be prepared to enable this Bumd to elect two members in February next, for the Patea Harbor Board.” Proposed by Air Dale, seconded by Air Hirst, and carried on division, “That Mr "Williams he requested to resign bis scat at this Board, if he is nnabio to attend the regular meetings of the same.” Ayes —Aitcliison, Dale, Hirst. Noes—Aliiroy, Adams.
Proposed by Mr Dale, seconded by Mr Hirst, and carried, “That the Valuation Poll for 1879-80, when completed, be open for inspection at the Court House, Carlyle, during otlico hours, in terms of the Hating Act, 1876.” Proposed by Mr Aitchison, seconded by Mr Hirst, and carried, “ That the accounts submitted for payment, with the exception of Messrs Fraser and Tregear’s, for which fuller information be asked, be passed. Accounts passed—Kenworthy, 8s; Patea Mail, £4 13s; E. Holmes, £l4 7s Gd ; Fraser and Tregear, £l6 16s ; Town Hall Company, £1 ; Wharfage on timber, 3s Gd ; Wilson, 4s ; Keys, £1 16s ; J. McCarthy, 2s 6d. The Inspector of Nuisances reported that six horses had been impounded during the month, and that a pig found dead, the owner being unknown, had to be buried at a cost of 2s 6d. The Working Committee reported that six loads of gravel had been laid on footpaths east side of Taranaki Road ; that four hours of day labour had been employed ; and that a portion of timber for kerbing, together with 300 river blocks, had been received. Statement of accounts for December showed—Balance, Ist December, £289 10s 9d; received during month, £l4 16s 9d ; total, £304 7s 6d. Expenditure, £4 3s 4d, leaving a balance of £BOO 4s 2d. Tha meeting adjourned.
