Examination into die question of steam service betwen England and the Colony, as proposed by Mr Macandrew, shows that thecostwould beabout £60,000 per annum. Orders are being given for negotiations for the purchase of land from natives on Kapati and Stevens Island, for lighthouses. The following were the prices of colonial stocks in the London market on the 11th September and Bth October New Zealand 5 Jper cent. Consols, in September 101, in October 100 J; New Zealand 4|* per cents., in September 94, in October 92-£; 5 per cents., 10.40; recent loan, September 98£, October 98f; Queensland 4 per cents., September 90, October N. S. Wales 4 percents., September 97, October 97f.
