TUESDAY, DECEMBER 10: IMPORTANT SALE OF TOWN- LAND, CARLYLE (EXTENSION), Patea N Mr b. j. dun c a has received instructions from Colonel Gortoh and others, to sell by public auction, at his Sale Rooms, Panamastreet, Wellington, on the above date—’ ■ The following Valuable BUILDING SITES in the Town of Carlyle (Extension), on the Patea River : . LOTS 34, 36, 40, 44. 46, 48, 79, 81, 117. ' 119, 121, 123, 49, 61. 95, 124, 128, 133,152, and as many other Sections as will realise reserve. These Sections are situated on the East Bank of the Patea River, and immediately opposite the present Town of Carlyle. The depth of water on this side of the river renders tiie cast bank particularly adapted for all shipping business, there, being from 6ft. to 15ft. at low water spring tides. There is a rise and fall of from-6ft, to 9ft., thus giving a depth' of from 12ft. to 21ft., increased at spring tides to 15ft. and 24ft., close to the lots now offered. Harbor Works, sanctioned by the Governor and under the supervision of Sir John Goode, immediately superintended by an experienced engineer (Mr Thomson, 0 E.), are now under progress at the mouth of the Patea : River, wliich wilL 'at least increase the depth of water on the bar to 16fti, thus affording an entrance to our larger coasting steamers, . The Patea River is the only outlet for the trade of the Patea County, extending from Opunake to Waitotara, and comprising some of the very.best' agricultural land in New Zealand, capable of supporting a very considerable population. Direct trade with the Port of Wellington, by regular steam communication, is about to be established, a steamer, owned by a local Company, being under engagement with Messrs Mills, of Wellington, to be completed on the Bth December next. Patea is about the same distance by sea from Wellington as Wanganui, and its exports and imports must necessarily pass through Wellington, which is its natural market. The railway from Normanby to Carlyle and Waitotara is in progress, thus bringing the whole of the district in close connection through Carlyle with the Port of Wellington. Large sales of land will shortly take place on the ceh brated Waimate Plains and in the Momnahaki Block, near Waverley, all of which will greatly increase the value oftbePoit of Carlyle for business purposes. A portion of the extension of the Town of Carlyle east bank is now open for sale on the date advertised, affording an opportunity for in\estment never before offered in this district. Special attention is directed to the depth of water as described above, which, has has been taken from reliable sources, and may be thoroughly relied upon.
