PATEA HARBOUR BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the above Board was held on Monday last. Present—Messrs. Sherwood (Chairman), Taplin, Mi'r.yy, Bridge, Wiiichombe, and H. Williamson.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The Engineer reported that since the last meeting he had finished and sent away plans and other information required by Sir .John Goode, and that he had continued a portion of the work at the Heads inwards, so as to throw the sea swell clear of the cement stor.e, and into the river. Certificate of payment to Mr Dickson for £6OO accompanied the report, in connection with which it was stated, —“ There is £2,300 of work exclusive of concrete blocks done, and about £BOO of material on the ground.” The report continues, —“ The ' current is so strong at the end of the work that it has sceptred not only sand, but also the gravel away, and there is now a depth of twenty feet at the end of the work, instead of twelve; which would have been sufficient.” To stop the scour, which would only. entail needless and great expense in the construction of the work, the Engineer proposed to deposit stone over the site of the work, before the scour had time to acton the gravel, by means of a hopper, dredge, plans and specifications of which were enclosed; ....
Moved by Mr Williamson, seconded by Mr Bridge, and carried, —“ That Mr Prouse’s application to remove a house erected by mistake on the Harbour Board land be acccoded to, provided he does so within a period of six weeks. Agreed that £S 10s, paid in error to the Board’s credit, by the Collector of Customs, Wanganui, bo refunded. Proposed by Mr Bridge; seconded bv Mr Taplin, and carried. “ That proceedings be taken in the R. M. Court against any person removing clay, gravel, or stones from the Harbour Board reserves, without the. permission of the Clerk.” Proposed by Mr Sherwood, seconded by Mr Bridge, and carried, —“ That a barge be constructed ill accordance with the plans and specifications now before the Board, and that Mr Dickson’s tender for construction be accepted, the time for completing the work being six weeks.”
Accounts were passed and the meeting adjourned.
