HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. WELLINGTON. Wellington 29. At last night's sjtting, an attempt was, made to put the Wellington Reclaimed Land Sale Bill through'committee, but it met with a good deal of opposition, and was finally shelved by 34 to 32 votes. The consideration of the report of the 'conference ; on the Bill.was postponed until to-day.
Tiie Native Land Act Amendment Bill was read a second time.
After a long and very animated debate “ That the House go into committee on Native Law Suits Bill,” it was thrown put by 47 to 21. , The Native Lands Act Amendment Bill went through committee as amended, and passed. The; Financial' Arrangements' Bill was read a second time to enable it to be put through committee, when the House went into committee of Supply, and after passing a few items, the House adjourned at five minutes to 5 this morning.
On the House meeting to-day, Mr Macandrew gave notice of motion for the establishment of a monthly steam service between England . and New 'Zealand. Vessels' entering the principal ports of the colony ; Government guaranteeing to ship a thousand immigrants each.trip- for, five years. ■ Mr Sheehan announced that the Wairarapa difficulty had ended, and that the natives had abandoned the pah. Mr Macandrew, in reply to Mr Macfarlane, said the Government would grant equal concessions to an -Auckland Wagon Company, to those granted to Otago. -In icply to Mr Beetham, Mr Macandrew said the Government bad ordered eight hundred immigrants for Wellington. But would hot be justified in ordering more. Tne House went into Ooimhittee on the Municipal Corporations Bill, which was passed with amendments ' Oh the motion for going into Committee of Supply^'Mr Shriraski moved that the next Session he held in Christchurch. Ayes twenty -nine ; noes twenty-eight. The House will probably prorogue on Thursday.
The consideration of the report of the Managers'of both Houses, on amendments by the Council in the Electoral Bill, was. placed at the bottom of the order paper. In the Legislative Conncil to-day, Sir Dillon .'Bell moved, that the subject of Educational Reserves should be considered by Parliament, and a report presented next session, .which was agreed to. The Railways Construction Bill was read aseconrl time by 17 t0.15-votes. , , On the second reading of the Public Works Amendment Billj Mr Waterhouse moved That the Bill be read a second time that day six months,, but after discussion withdrew it, and the Bill was read a second time. '
