THE CORRECT ACCOUNT.

(To the Editor of the Pate a Mail.) Sir, —As some extraordinary statements have found their way into print, with regard to the man Stcuart who was reported to have been stopped by natives on the Mountain Road, will you kindly allow that individual to give a simple account of what did happen. A Stratford settler named Tourner warned me not to go on, as a party of natives had threatened to shoot a boy that morning on the road and had turned him back. A little further on I met two natives who informed me that they were out in pursuit of “ liiroke” and had seen a boy some time before, who was so frightened at the sight of their arms, that he turned back and rode off. The rest of the telegrams are simply nonsense from beginning to end.—l am, &c., FRED. J. STEUART. Manutahi, October 7, 1878.
