Conqueror was bred by Mrs Miller, West Taieri, out of the celebrated mare Duchess, and is by Emperor out of the celebrated mare Kate (imported by the late Mr Jas. Straehan). Sire, Emperor. Emperor has gained three first and three second prizes. Emperor’s sire, Napoleon (imported by J. Nimmo). Napoleon by George Buchanan's Emperor out of Nancy (imported)—bred by Alexander Finlay, Esq., Sandybills, near Glasgow. Nancy by the celebrated Garnary Horse, and her dam by Scotsman. Nancy was first shown as a 3-year old, and got first prize at Hamilton, first at Balliestan, second at Glasgow, and second at Kilbride. She was next year shown as a brood mare at Glasgow and Kilbride, where she received similar honors. Conqueror took the first prize as a 2year old at the Blueskin Show, 1875, and second prize for All-Comers and Aged Horses at the same Show; and at Oatnaru the following year took second prize as a 3-year old in a field of nine competitors.
