PARLIAMENTARY.
(Per Press Agency.) HOUSE OF EEPEESENTATIYES. WELLINGTON. September 20. The House resumed in committee last night on the Electoral Bill, and sat until 10.10, when the House adjourned. In clause 126, that public houses be closed on the day of the poll, caused discussion, and was ultimately struck out on division by 22 to 31 votes.'
The only other amendment was ih fixing' the hour for closing the poll at six o’clock instead.of eight. The House met this afternoon. The census returns were laid on the table.
In reply to Mr Richardson’s .question regarding the Tap.anui Railway, Mr Mac-andrew-.said that everything in the matter had been done openly and above board. All the information as to dates of tenders, Ac., asked for, was laid on the table. No present liability of any kin 1 bad been incurred. The liabilities were entirely prospective. No arrangement had been made as to any extension Several Bills were read a first lime. The question of rates of pay of the police was remitted to a select committee. The Electoral Bill was further considered in committee till 5.80.
In the Legislative Council to-day, Colonel Whitmore intimated that the Harbor Bid would probably not be proceeded with this session.
