The Taranaki Herald , of 4th September, says —Last night a fancy dress rink, given by a number of gentlemen, took place in the Odd Fellows’ Hall. The affair, the first of its kind in New Plymouth, was a brilliant success, both rinkers and visitors (there being a very large number of the latter), seeming to enioy themselves thoroughly. The characters introduced were bofh varied and interesting, the “ get-up” in many cases exhibiting both ingenuity and taste. The Thames Advertiser says the s.s. Tui lately proceeded with a punt load of goods nearly forty miles beyond Omahu, on the Waihouriver, which is many miles farther, than any steamer has yet ventured to navigate this stream.
