WARM.
(To the Editor of the Patka Mail.) Sir, — I would not have troubled answering the epistle of Mr John J. Tylee had he stuck to the truth, but I consider it from beginning to end like the lamentations of a spoiled child getting weaned, addressing its grandmother. So far as Mr John J. Tylee not having a road to his home, I believe that the carter who carted the timber for the residence of Mr John J. Tylee, was able to take a thousand feet at a single load, without u sixpence being expended from the time that Mr John J. Tylee became one of our enterprising settlers until after Mr John J. Tylee had said residence built. A thousand feet is not so dusty for a settlor to growl for want of a road to start with ; but Mr John J. Tylee wants a particular road for himself, to ride his horse and cart the produce of his farm, and, as Mr John J. Tylee contributes so largely to the funds of the hoard, the least the Highway Board could do is to satisfy Mr John J. Ty lee’s hobby.
Regarding the Board having a man employed filling up every little rut to a warden’s residence, I may iniorm Mr John J. Tylee that the man employed was, most of his time, filling up on the road that Mr John J. Tylee’s timber, stores, seeds, &c., &e., was carted on; and I would have thought that not only Mr John J. Tylee, but any green-born out. of a letter box, would have known it required doing after such heavy traffic.
Although a member of the Wairoa Highway Board, I was not aware, until informed by Mr John J. Tylee, that that body had a clerk on their staff, and am afraid the Board will not open an office for the convenience of Mr John J. Tylee. Perhaps the next Board will oblige him. As for getting their contracts without security, Mr John J. Tylee wdl find the Wairoa Board gets their work done as favorably as any other Board in the County, As Mr John J. Tylee appears to like to see his name in print, I invite him to a feast, and as another election will take place shortly, 1 hope to see Mr John J. Tylee showing up, as I would he glad to sec one with more ability than myself representing No. 2 Ward, and, if 1 consider Mr John J. Tylee that one, I will he most happy to give my small support. —I am, &c., D. FLEMING. Wavcrley, August 6, 1878.
