The following account of land in cultivation and agricultural produce at the time Statistics were collected in February,within the Patea County, has been published in the New Zealand Gazette. Total number of holdings of over one acre in extent, 342 • —comprising 177 freehold, 71 rented, and 94 part rented and part freehold. Extent of land broken up but not under crop—--3,487 acres. Sown in wheat 974 acres, estimated to produce 41,456 bushels. Sown in oats for grain 521 acres, estimated to produce 25,781 bushels ; for green food or hay IB acres. Sown in barley 74 acres, estimated to produce 2,080 bushels. In potatoes 107 acres, estimated to yield 824 tons. Sown in other crops 22 acres. The total number of acres under crop, exclusive of land under grasses, was 1,711, In sown grasses for hay there were 1,190 acres, estimated to produce 2,298 tons ; in grasses after having been broken up (including such as hay) 9,399 acres; grass-sown.lands not previously ploughed (including such as hay) 54,896 acres. The quantity of last year’s crop remaining on hand when Statistics were collected within the County was 6 bushels of wheat and 9 bushels of oats.
