The Carlyle Harmonic Society will give their usual quarterly’ concert in the Town Hall, on Thursday, the 11th July. The advertised programme is a very attractive one—Birch’s Pastoral Operetta, “/I he Merry Men of Sherwood Forest,” being exceedingly lively and pleasing. It has won golden opinions when performed by r the Nelson, Wanganui, and New Plymouth Harmonic Societies, and we hope that its performance by our local society’ will prove equally’ successful. ’flic- second part of the programme reads well, and altogether, tills should prove the best concert yet given by the Society’. We learn that the practices have been well attended, notwithstanding the wet weather, ami the soloists are mostly well up in their parts. The Society feels greatly’ the want of a piano of their own, and if sufficient funds are't'orthcoming from the ensuing concert and the halfyearly’ subscriptions, hone soon to be able to make arrangements for the purchase of a ..really ft'ood instrument.
