EAWERA.

(PROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) My temporary fit of insanity having partially, worn off, I will once more attempt to give a rational account of oar passing events. The" lecture of the Rev P. W. Fairdough on Monday night, was a great success, and was listened to throughout by a large and appreciative audience. It is to be hoped that he will be induced to give a ; series of the same, as from the low charge for admission, it affords every ■one an opportunity of enjoying a pleasant evening’s instruction and amusement. A Volunteer Cavalry Corps is about to bo formed here. A number of onr leading townsmen have put down their names, and should the members of the Town Band bo enlisted, we may expect to sec quite a martial turn out. The late heavy rains have again shown the necessity that exists for a proper drainage for our roads, the one leading past the Wesleyan Church, being a regular lagoon, and utterly impassable. It is time that something was done to this street, as buildings are constantly ■going up on it, and, as yet, not a sixpence has been spent in improvements. The second of the scries of Quadrille Parties was held at the Hall last week, and was well attended. It is the intern of the committee to extend the number to four, in place of the three originally fixed upon. Mr Charles Tait has lately refused an offer of £I,OOO for his ten acre town -section.
