CARLYLE TOWN BOARD.
A special meeting of the above Board, called on requisition of Messrs Milroy and Williams, was hold in the Council Buildings on Tuesda} 7 evening last, for the purpose of appointing a chairman and working committee, and to receive Engineer’s report on town levels and drainage, also to appoint committee as to main road. Present: Messrs Adams, Dale, Hirst, Milroy, and Williams.
The Clerk took the chair until appointment of chairman for the ensuing year had been decided.
Proposed by Mr Hirst, seconded by Mr Adams, and carried-unanimously, “That Mr John Milroy be Chairman for the ensuing year.”
Proposed by Mr Taplin, seconded by Mr Williams, and carried, “ That a Working Committee be appointed, consisting of the Chairman, Messrs Aitchison, Dale and the mover, for the ensuing year, two to form a quorum.” Proposed by Mr Milroy, seconded by Mr Williams, and carried, “ That the Board, with the Engineer (Mr Tregear) meet tomorrow (June 11), at the Town Hall, at 9 a.m., re levels.”
Proposed by Mr Dale, seconded by Mr Adams, and carried, “That Messrs Taplin, Aitchison, Plirst, and the Chairman, be appointed a committee, to confer with the County Council Committee, re main road.”
The report of Messrs Fraser and Tregear, as to drainage, recommended the laying down of a five feet covered-in drain, to run under ground from behind Odger’s Hotel, in westerly direction,-to the sea. ' Waterways about town to lead to the main drain. Total cost estimated to be about £1,009.
On Wednesda} r morning, the whole of the members met at the time appointed, and accompanied by the Engineer and Secretary, inspected the town, with a view to forming an opinion as to drainage scheme and town levels. After inspection,
it was decided that the general levels of the town should be regulated as far as practicable, by the footpath on the east side of Taranaki Bond.' The removal of earth from roadway in front of Catholic and Episcopalian Churches, to a level with main portion of Taranaki Road, was also approved. The question of drainage was left for further consideration.
