The following is extract from Taranaki Herald report of Harbour Boat'd meeting —The Chairman (Mr T. Kelly) said Mr Weston and himself had two interviews with Sir John Coode during their recent visit to Auckland, and at their final interview Sir John had stated that it would be utterly impossible for him to give a preliminary report before leaving the colony, because there were three plans under his consideration, and as each possessed many valuable features, he would not like to take the responsibility of making any recommendation until he had time to consider them, and go into their cost. Ho, therefore, could not give any intimation as to the starting point of the works. He expected that in four months time the Beard would have the first report; but in the meantime if they thought proper they might open the quarries (at the Sugarloaves) but he could not give any further information.— Major Atkinson said Sir John evidently implied by his reference to the quarries, that the harbour would be at the Sugarloaves. —The Chairman said Sir John Coode seemed to imply as much. He had as£de Sir John if he would act as engineer to the Board if the 'Board wished him, and he expressed his willingness to do so ; but said he could notact in any way connected with finance.—Mr Weston said Sir John Coode strongly advised the Board to get ■all the heavy plant from England. . He said that even in the old country there were few firms whose contract he would care to'accept for machinery of the kind the Board needed.
