From the Hawke’s Bay Herald we learn that Mr Carruthers was with Sir John Goode during the inspection of Napier Harbor. At Harbor Board meeting afterwards held, in speaking generally’as to visit of the inspecting party, Mr' Kinross, Chairman of the Harbour Board, said 41 He had spoken to Mr Carruthers respecting the haibour works. Mr Carruthers was satisfied so far, and said that the works had answered his expectations ; there were now 13 feet of water on the bar, and he expected it would deepen to 15 feet.

Sir John Coode arrived at Napier on Saturday morning, the 18th instant, and after inspecting the plans and harbor, went by special train, and then by private conveyance to the Grange, in order to see the lay of the country, that he might form an opinion, on the subject of river conservation. The mouth of the Tuki Tuki, arid other points along the beach were examined. The Engineer (Mr Weber) reporting to the Board, said —“Sir John enquired most minutely into the questions of rides, currents, effects of floods, changes of the beach, nature of the bottom of the sea at and near the harbor, and many other points bearing on the matter. Sir John stated that it appeared desirable that certain observations and surveys should be made for several months, and plana and sections prepared, which should be sent to him in England, through Mr Blackett.” The Hawke’s Bay Herald referring to the visit, says, “ It is understood that Sir John Goode’s report will he of a comprehensive nature, and that besides giving his opinion on the Harbor works that have been constructed, it will indicate on what principle it may bo practicable to carry out a large scheme. There will be, at all events, this gain by his visit—he will be in possession of all the information respecting the harbour, and if at any future time there may be any matter requiring his advice, he can be written to, and he will be in a position to form an opinion of what is best to he done.”
