Owing to Sunday hours being observed on Friday last (Queen’s Birthday) we were unable to publish names of winning horses in last issue. • We learn from our Wanganui contemporaries that though the course was in excellent condition, the attendance large, arrangements first-class—the sport was poor. The Chronicle says :—“This meeting, as .far. as steeplechase performing goes, muM be considered a failure, as not one of the horses could “ fly” the water jump, and nearly every one of them baulked at the bank jumps.” The Herald says:—“Wchave never attended a Wanganui race meeting whore the sport was so poor, and this in no way preventihle. The weather was delightful, the attendance excellent, the fields large, hut the running only moderate.” ■ ' The following are amongst the chief events Handicap Steeplechase of 150 sovs for the first horse,’ls sovs for the second ; 3 miles.
