ESTABLISHMENT OF HIGH SCHOOLS.
Tin? Education Board of the District, of Wanganui have circulated the following ' extract from proceedings atlas! meeting, which we reprint for general information. Moved by Mr W. Williams, seconded by Mr J. Duthie, and carried, That (lie request of ihq Carlyle iSchool Committee to have their school converted into a High School Iv complied with.” Moved by Mr Sanson, seconded by Mr Dalrymple, and carried. “ That Mr Williams’ motion, coupled with Mr Sanson’s resolution referring to High Schools, be printed.” Resolution referred to : £: That in the opinion of tins Board the establishment of District High Schools in the various centres of population is highly desirable, and to be encouraged.—That any School Committee applying to tills Board requesting the establishment of a, Distiict High School, such Committee be requested to furnish the names of parents or guardians of children likely to attend such High School. Such parents or guardians siiall guarantee the attendance of not less than ten scholars, and shall undertake to pay ten pounds (£10) per annum for each child for a period of two years. imK-h sum to be in advance, iu equal quarterly instalments. —That no child under 12 years of age, and unable to pass an examination in subject equal to Standard 11. of the regulations of the Education Board for the District of Wellington, be eligible for such High School.—Thai on the foregoing resolutions being complied with, the Board will assist Committees, to the utmost of its ability, to establish District High Schools in accordance with Clauses 55 and 5G of the Education Act 1877. — • The Board will attach suitable building accommodation to present school buildings, and will, if necessary, provide separate recreation ground for children attending' Grammar Schools, and will also appoint duly qualified masters to such schools.—That the Teacher of a District High .School be paid 75 per cent, of school fees from scholars attending such school up to one hundred pounds per annum, in addition to the ordinary' salary of Head Masters in Common Schools. And that 25 per cent, of all school Ices be paid into a fund for the purpose of establishing Scholarships, to bo competed for by pupils attending school.
