PATEA EAST ROAD BOARD.

Tiik ordinary meeting of the above Board was held at Carlyle on Monday last, all the members being present. Minutes of last meeting were read - and confirmed. Inward and outward correspondence was read.—Letter from the Under-Secretary Public Works and from the RegistrarGeneral requesting to be furnished with returns of receipts and expenditure for year ending 31st March ; from Grown Lands Office, Wellington, in reply to request by the Board that Messrs Fraser and Tregcar should lay off road along Whenuakura side of the Patea River, asking if Messrs Fraser and Tregear were authorized surveyors by the SurveyorGeneral’s Department. Sieved by Mr Horner, seconded by Mr Symes, and carried, That the Secretary be instructed to inform the County Council that Saturday, Ist June would be the day on Avbich members of the Board would be nominated, and if necessary, the following Saturday would be the day of election, which would, beheld in the Whenuakura School House. Mr D. M. Harris to bo Returning Officer, with power to issue necessary notices. Tenders for bush falling on theOkutukn Road, wore opened as follows : Mathew Would, for portion of work from Beimcr’s to Hutchinson’s track, at 11s per chain — accepted ; T. Bremer for whole work at 25s per chain—declined ; W. Watkin for portion of work from provincial boundary line to Hutchinson’s track at 15s per chain —accepted. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Secretary of Crown JLauds informing him that Mr Fraser was duly authorized according to requirements to lay off the road along Patea River bank. The accounts for the year ending 31st March, 1878, were laid before the Board, having been audited and found correct. Statement of accounts for April showed : Receipts—balance on Ist April, £193 19s 3d ; rates received, £2 8s lOd—total, £196 8s Id. Expenditure—Secretary’s salary for March, £2 Is 8d ; Patea Mail, 7s 6d, leaving balance inthe Bank of £19318 lid. Meeting adjourned.
