Dr Lemon is continuing Ins experiments with the telephone. He is able now to cany on a conversation with case between his private residence on the lerrace and the telegraph office. He has had a large instrument constructed with five diaphragms and magnets, by which the sound is greatly magnified, and can be heard distinctly all ovdr the room without requiring the dilivering telephone to be held to the ear. In an experiment the sound of conversation in Dr Lemon’s house was clearly audible in a room at the telegraph, office, adjoining that in which the delivering telephone was placed, and the voices of speakers not before known to be at the former place were recognised immediately at the latter. — Post.
