At a late meeting of the Palmerston Borough Council, a proposition was made that a deputation be appointed to wait on the Minister for Public Works for the puz’pose of laying before him certain particulars as to projected Hutt Waikanae Hallway. The Manawatu Times says : The voice of Parliament was .most favorable to it during last session, the Wellington papers strongly advocate its construction, and if the surveys are pushed forward so as to have some data to go on when the House meets, there is very little doubt that immediately afterwards the contract will be let for its formation. A Grahamstown telegram says :• —When the Native Minister was last here he heard of a letter sent to the Te Aroha natives signed 11 You Know.Who,’’cautioning them against the Native Minister’s visit, and the sale of lands. Ten days were spent by an agent of the Government in getting the letter. A licensed Native Interpreter admitted through the Press being the author, but said ho did it at the request of a native land owner. It is expected that his license will bo cancelled. In Dunedin a policeman has been fined 20s, with the option of three day’s imprisonment for 11 playfully throwing a handfull of sawdust in the face of a female prisoner.” He will probably be dismissed from the service.
