A Funeral Reform Association in which all the Friendly Society Lodges have joined, has been organized. Tenders for conducting funerals on the reform principle have been called. The American party sent to various parts to observe the transit of Venus in 1871, are reported to have nearly completed the reduction of the records, and will shortly have ready for publication the data obtained by the American Government expeditions. When all the records of all the nations have been published, they will be submitted to very severe and learned discussion, and after a time it will bo seen whether the sun’s distance has yet been accurately measured.
