PATEA HARBOR BOARD.

A full meeting of the above Board was held in the County Council Buildings on Monday evening last. Present:—Messrs G. F. Sherwood, (in the chair) Milroy, Williams, Wray, Bridge, Williamson, and Wilson. Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. The chairman reported receipt of plans and specifications, and gave other information in reference to proposed works, after which it was proposed by Mr Sherwood, seconded by Mr Williamson, and carried, “ That tenders be at once invited for the construction of the first section of the eastern groin, as shown in the plans, and described in the conditions supplied by the Engineer (Mr Thompson) and assented to by the Governor, except that the time for returning tenders be extended to the 14th Mf rob, 1878.” The following addition proposed by Mr Bridge, and seconded by Mr Milroy, was carried unanimously, “ That tenderers be required to deposit cash or a marked cheque for five per cent, of the amount of their tender, which will be returned to the successful tenderer upon the contract being signed b3 r the contractor and sureties.” Proposed by Mr Bridge, seconded by Mr Sherwood, and carried, “ That advertisement be inserted in the following papers, calling for tenders for the Harbor improvements, one insertion per week, to March 14th. — N. Z. Times , Wellington ; N. Z. Herald , Auckland ; Canterbury Times, Christchurch ; Otago Daily Times , Dunedin; Patea Mail, Carlyle ; Wanganui Herald, Wanganui.” On the motion of Mr Sherwood, seconded by Mr Wilson, it was resolved, “ That Mr W. Cowern be appointed Returning Officer, at the rate of £1 Is per diem, nominations, and £2 2s per day for a poll. Deputies to receive one half the amount.” Other business in regard to engaging engineer was transacted, and the meeting adjourned.
