PATEA HARBOUR BOARD.

(To the Editor of the Patea Mail.) Sir, —Upon reading your report of the last meeting of the above Board, I do not see au3 r person or persons were appointed to conduct the election of members for the Board, which takes place on the second Monday in February; and I understand the Board do not meet till that day—therefore, if the Board have not appointed a Returning Officer, it is their duty to have a special meeting and appoint them. I understand the chairman of the present Board considers, it is the duty of the Government to arrange for the election. If so, I feel certain he is wrong. “The Regulation of Local Election Act, 1870,” is incorporated with the “ Harbour Board Act,” and tiio Returning Officer must be appointed by the governing body. —I am, &c., ONE INTERESTED.
