GOLD TO BE FOUND.
(To the Editor of the Path a Mail.) Siu, —It is very surprising that no attempt lias been made by tlu settlers of these districts, to explore the mountain ranges, between Putea and Waitotara, with a view to ascertain what mineral wealth they contain. I have met with persons who, from indications they hive found, are of opinion that gold bearing reefs exist among those ranges. One or two have assured me that, inland of Whenuakura, by careful panning gold can be obtained, but not in payable quantities.Among the gravel on the south-east side of the Waitotara river, going up the hill,- there is a considerable quantity of quartz, some coarse, some flinty, but some is very fair stone. This probablv was washed down that river, during of the disturbances among those mountains. Politically and commercially, it is desirable to have a large influx of population on this coast, to open up and occupy the interior country. Nothing would tend to accomplish this object so rapidly at the discovery of a gold-held in the interior. There may or may not be gold in those ranges, but the chances of finding, are well worth the expense of sending in a prospecting party ; and I believe if a subscription list was got up for the purpose, it would be readily subscribed to, by the settlers of this district.—l am, &c., NEW ZEALAND'. Holloway's Ointment and Pills.—Shortness of Breath, Coughs, and colds.—■ Thousands of testimonials can be produced to prove the power possessed by these corrective remedies in cases of asthama, incipient consumption, and all disorders of the chest and lungs. The Ointment well rubbed upon the chest and back, penetra ting the skin,- is absorbed and carred directly to the lungs, where,- in immediate contact with the whole mass of circulating blood, it neutralises or expels those impurities which are the foundation of consumption, Asthma, pneumonia,- and similar complaints. On the appearance of the first consumptive symptoms the back and chest of the patient should be fomented with warm brine, dried with a coarse cloth, and Holloway’s Ointment then well rubbed in. Its absorption will subdue advancingsymptoms, and baffle this formidable foe. Strangers and country settlers coming to Carlyle, are very often at a loss to know which is the best and cheapest General Drapery and Clothing Establishment in the district. 11. A. Adams’ Cardigan House, offers special advantages that can be met with nowhere else in the district. He keeps the largest and best assorted stock of every description of drapery goods, imported direct —and from the best colonial houses ; which, being bought on the most advantageous terms, and having thorough knowledge of the business, enables him to offer goods of sterling quality at piiccs that cannot be improved on by any other house in New 2Tealani. Every article is marked in plain figures, from which there is no deviation ; so that inexperienced people are as well served as the best judges, the terms being net cash, without rebate or abatement of any kind. Note the address —R. A. Adams ; Cardigan House, nearly opposite Town Hall, Carlyle.— advT.
