Somerville ami Varloy (I he Evangelists) are to arrive at Auckland in ,January, and will visit Christchurch and Dunedin.

A private oilier oil £105,000 has been refused for the Tunes freehold. A lire occurred at Guthrie and Larnaeh's hardware store, where a large quantity of kerosene and sixteen kegs of powder were stored, with other inflammable material. The powder was not got out before the last keg was on fire. Origin of the fire unknown. Building and stuck was insured in the Victoria for £3,000. Damage, about £IO,OOO.

GKAIIAMSTOWN. December 18,

An influcncial meeting was held last night, when a Sericultural Association was formed, to promote (hegrowth of mulberry trees, and sericulture in the district. Mr Birth liberated yesterday nine thousand young salmon in the Thames Kiver and tributaries, and took with him a number of mountain quail for liberation in suitable localities.

Natives report that Hie trout placed in the AVaihoa, on the Upper Thames sometime ago, have greatly multiplied—thousands of young fish having been seen.

Anniversary proceedings. —Grand display of sports during the day. 10,000 present. In evening there was a torchlight procession of town and country fire brigades, and a grand display of fire works, which was witnessed by 15,000 people. At the Firemen’s dinner held afterwards, it was stated that during the last seven years, properly in the city insured against fire had increased from£soo,ooo to i 11,500,000.
