SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS.
CARLYLE SCHOOL. (Mr 11. 11. Dyer, schoolmaster.)
Examination of School children was conducted by Robert Leo, Esq., of Wellington, on Tuesday and Wednesday, 21st an 22nd November, at Carlyle. The following is a list of successful candidates in their respective standards : Standard I.— May Black, Alice Black, Amelia Dickell, Agnes Pender, Alice North, Kate Colson, Rochfort Baddeley, Oscar Buscke, Walter Colson, Bertie Wray. Standard ll.—Alice Buscke, Elizabeth Whelan, Martha Usshor, Robert Aitchison, John Williams, William Hirst, Cecil Wray, William Davis, William McCarty, James McCarty. Standard lll.—Agnes Paterson, Robert Whelan, Thomas Dale, Harry Wray. Standard IV.—Alfred Buscke.
KAKAIIAMKA SCHOOL. (Mr R. T. Brown, schoolmaster.)
On the 20th November, the children of this school were examined by R. Lee, Esq., the Inspector. Five candidates, whose names and marks arc given below, passed. Standard I.—Arthur Delamore, 105, out of 200. Frank Ddamoro 185, Alfred Pearce 180, CliJl’ord Haywood 1 JO. Standard ll.—William Fairweathcr 172, Charles Delamore, 14-1.
There were seven candidates for Standard 111. Five of these passed, viz., Ada Hawkcn, 187 out of 200 ; Alexander Williamson, 183 ; Alargery Williamson, 10(1; William Delamore, 120; Nina Hawkcn, 120.
The remarks of the Inspector on the progress, &c., of the scholars will appear in his annual report.
MANUTAAI SCHOOL. (Mr Clement Lee, schoolmaster.) E. Lee, Esq,, School Inspector, visited Mauutahi on Thursday, 22nd November, for the purpose of examining the scholars at the Manutahi School. Emanuel Nikkei, W. Neil and W. Christie passed Standard I, Those for Standard 11. had not been Jong enough at school to be prepared to pass—of three sent up for Standard 111. two had only been six months, and the other nine months at school, instead of the necessary two years. One of them (J. Campbell) only required live marks to have passed. The Inspector commented very favorably on the reading and writing of all classes, especially the infants. The success attained in so short a time by the schoolmaster, who also is named Lee, is highly creditable to that gentleman.
WAV-BULKY SCHOOL. The Inspector lately examined school children at the above school. In addition to Mr Lee’s inspection in the different standards, the Rev R. J. Allsworth and Mr Bridge (chairman of school committee) examined scholars as to their merits in the different blanches. Between £G and T7 was raised in the district to procure books for prizes, which were distributed as folfows ;
4th Standard Ist prize, James Mathieson ; 3rd Standard, Ist prize, George Aiken ; 2nd Standard, Ist prize, A. Howie ; Ist Standard, Ist prize, F. Mason ; 2nd prize, Susan Dyke. Heading—lst prize, Ist class,_ Mary Howie ; Ist prize, 2nd class, Ist division, W. Davis ; 2nd prize, W. Collins ; Ist prize, 3rd class, Jane Dudley ; Ist prize, 4th class, A. Walking-ton. Dictation —2nd class, Ist division, W, Davis ; 2nd class, 2nd division, John Old ; 3rd class, Mary Dyke. Arithmetic—2nd class, Ist division, T. Bridge, very good ; 2nd class, 2nd division, P. Thurston ; 3rd class, Jemima Cheync. Writing—2nd class, Ist division, Catherine Choyne ; 2nd class, 2nd division, Samuel Overcnd ; 3rd class, Egmont Dickie.
Spoiling—4th class, Ist prize, A, Walkington; 2nd class, 2nd prize, P. Keenan.
There were two special prizes, by Mr Hansard, for the youngest boys passing in the 2nd and 3rd Standards, which fell to W. Price and T. Bridge. For general progress in the sth class, Ist prize, J. Kreiger ; 2nd prize, William Dudley. Higeest marks on card and attendances, 2nd class, T. Bridge. Highest number of attendances, 3rd class, W. Price.
