THE LAST BLOW.
(To the Editor of the Patea Mail.)
Mr Editor, —‘.‘Reform’s” last effusion, which smells of the premises, and his summing up the character of “ Reformation,” is;somewhat novel.;]• and ; 1 fear that the' cranium that produced the letter must have been grown at that place where,. sn ; my opinion, Darwin, from a visit of his. son, obtained the idea of the origin of species. First, with regard: to Reformation’s” pretended ability, and such a remark is nevertheless a proof of “ Reform’s” vanity and assumption. He Writes to teach, but would, in my opinion, stir up a far worse state than “ Reformation” would ever think of. Bis remark about personal spite is a last resource. It reminds me of an old lady I knew years ago—when she got jammed in a corner in a religious discussion, always fled to faith as a protection. “Reformation” denies personal spite, qxs he defies At the same time be does’nt like toadies, and the advice—that he (“Reform”) leaves you to be the best judge of what letters you shall insert—is certainly a novelty, and must be considered by you as a gieat favour, viz., to do as you like. But I trust, Mr Editor, that your journal is not dependent either on “ Reform” or “Reformation,-” if it is, the sooner it ceases, both for the proprietor and the public, the better. T fear, Mr Editor,-the' writer “ Reform” is the hand of Jacob, but the face of Esau ; and, from private reasons, I decline any further remarks, so “ Reform,” if he choses, can write without fear of contradiction.
This effusion is to give “ Reform” an opportunity of indulging in more “ stabs in the dark,” which please certain parties ; “ Reformation” is not under Hie necessity of being jaded to write what he does’nt believe to be true. Good bye.—l am, &c.,
REFORMATION.
