The Taranaki Herald of Tuesday, the 16th instant, gives a full account of Messrs F. J. and G. W. Gane’s proposition to take up land for special settlement purposes. The Messrs Gano were in attendance at the meeting of the Waste Lauds Board. The following is the gist of the proposal ; —“ (a.) 1,800 acres in the provincial district (more or less) between Otoki river and the Taumaha native reserves ; 1200 acres being dense bush and GOO acres scrub, gullies, and fern. (£>.) The block to be •surveyed and subdivided into 18 sections of 100 acres each, and a map thereof provided at the expense of the Colonial Government, fc.) Price of the land to bo 1200 acres at £l, and 600 acres at £2_ 10s per acre, payable as hereinafter provided. (d.) The sum of £OOO shall be expended by applicants in the construction of a road, such expenditure to be under the control of the Board.” Then follow particulars and conditions proposed to ensure the carrying out of the scheme.
