THE NEW MINISTRY. WELLINGTON. October 13. The following gentlemen were sworn in Members of the Ministry at noon to-day (Saturday) before His Excellency the Governor; Sir George Grey (understood to be Premier) John Sheehan, Native Minister James Macandrew, Minister for Lands W. J. M. Larnach, Minister for Public Works
John Ballance, w r as expected to be sworn-in during the afternoon, as Colonial Treasurer. It is reported on good authority that there is Three hundred and fifty thousand pounds extra Provincial Liabilities more than had been estimated by the late Government, and which will have to be provided for by the now Treasurer October 15, 3 p.m. The new Ministry are just being resworn, as follows • ■ Sir G. Grey: Premier and Colonial Secretary W. J. M. Larnach: Treasurer and Commissioner of Stamps James Macandrew: Minister of Lands and Public Works John Sheehan : Native Department and Minister of Justice J. T. Fisher; Postmaster-General and Tel egraph Commissioner Colonel Whitmore refused office. October IG. Business after Sir George Grey’s statement in the House last night was unimportant,
The Legislative Council adjourned to-day, doing no business, and will do so day by day, until a Minister is appointed to represent the Government in Council. In the House of Representatives today, Government, in answering questions, said—While disapproving of the decision of the Magistrate in the Needham case, they would take no further action.—Surveys would be made to carry out the will of the House regarding the Otago Main Centre Railway.
It is understood that an attack is to be made with the object of unseating the present Government, but it will not take wlace till after the Financial Statement is delivered.
