[Feu Puess Agency.] • : ♦ : BOMBAY. August 21. An unofficial Russian despatch confirms the attack of General Melikolf on the 18th. After capturing the first lino of entrenchments he fell back on bis former position. Many were killed on both sides. The Russians occupied a position between Loratz and Selvi. General Gonrk lost 4,000 men while retreating to Shipka Pass. The Turks are preparing for a winter campaign. August 22. There have been disastrous floods in Scotland. Siilicman’s army lias not yet crossed the Balkans. They passed Rcssamuk on the 19th. A Russian official despatch says the aif air on the 19th was merely to divert attention from the movement at Tcrgukasson. After a prolonged engagement, chiefly with the artillery, the Russians returned to Kurukdara. August 23, 10.53 p.m. The fighting at Shipka was still proceeding. Official despatch was received yesterday at noon. The Russian official despatch says, that repeated attacks by Turkish forces had been repulsed with heavy loss. Osman Pasha reports having repulsed a reconnaisancc at Plevna. August 24. Russian official despatch says that Suliomau Pasha with forty battailous renewed the, attack on Shipka Pass on the 21st, but was repulsed. Fighting was proceeding after dark. The Turks under Hoftclia simultaneously advanced on Selvi. The result is unknown. The Russians are preparing for a winter campaign. LONDON. August 20. The Russians hold strongly to Shipka Pass. Suliomau Pasha is making a rcconnaisanco near Jenikoi, where the Russians are strongly entrenched. The Turks were, according to a Russian official despatch, repulsed. The Nile has been stationary for four days. Its level is four feet ton below the average for the past three years.
