A:c ontoi'Saimnent, given by the members of our Debating Homely, passed oil very successfully lust night, hvery available seat in the Blockhouse was occupied. r !iie audience included a fair number of the gentler sex. Air Peacock very ably filled the chair. During an interval in (be performance, tea was handed round to the ladies. The following gentlemen contributed to the enjoyment ; Recitations ; Messrs. Outline, and Jamieson. Hongs : Messrs Ginger, Wright, Peacock, Lee, and Dawson The audience testified appreciation by hearty and continued applause. Two readings, “ Lolhair,” and an extract from “Airs Brown’s visit to Pans,' 1 by Mr Lee, were well given and duly appreciated. A violin solo (Fantasia, including “The Last Rose of Hummer) by Mr Dawson, was re-demanded. The usual votes of thanks, and the “National Anthem,” brought a very enjoyable evening to a close. Next subject for debate, will be “ moderate Drinking v. Total Abstinence,” to be introduced lyy Air J. Ginger. The township here seems determined to keep pace with its next door neigh oor, Kakaramea. A blacksmith’s shop is in course of erection near the hotel. It is to be opened by Mr Jones, late of Palmerston and Wanganui, and will, no doubt, prove a great convenience fp farmers and others in tin’s neighborhood.
