August .13, special cablegram to the Sydney Herald, dated London, August 11, says: — / The Daily Neum correspondent at Bucharest reports a wholesale hatchery of the Christians south of the Balkans by Turkish troops, who were incited by merchants and landed proprietors in the Arohipun district. Thirty churches and five hundred schools and colleges have been burnt. From twelve to fifteen thousand Bulgarian fugitives have been massacred or burnt in their houses. The Turkish Bey was personally engaged in the work of slaughter. August 15. Thu mail steamer Norm an by lias been stranded on the Queensland coast. All bands were saved. Chinamen si nek up and robbed a camp on the Palmer Liver, and took £2(f). 'The orderly in charge had his head and feet lashed to a post, a rope round his neck, and his head in a bag ; he was nearly killed. Two of the Chinamen have been arrested. SINGAPORE. August 14. Sulieman Bey has assumed the olfensive, an 1 has crossed the Balkans. There is much sickness in the Russian army.
