Waverley people are going in for races on their own account this year. There is already about £2O in hand. Having- a good course they are intending to make use of it. Air James Davidson, storekeeper, of Hawora, will in future act as agent for the Patr:a A! Air,. Attention is called to advertisement soliciting persons interested in helping to relieve case of distress lately referred to in these columns, to meet at the Australasian Hotel on Tuesday next. At Opunake, on Tuesday next, Mr William Courtney, of Now Plymouth, will otfer for sale by auction, about 150 head cattle, the property of Air Breach. The sale will take place wet or dry at one o’clock. Nominations for councillors for the Patea County Council for the Hawera Riding must bo made to-day. Air William Cowern, will to-day offer for sale by auction valuable leasehold properties belonging to the Carlyle Town Board. Also superior harness &c. Sale at 12 o’clock. Tenders for fencing ccmotry reserve and clearing burial ground will be received by the Clerk of the Carlyle Town Board up to G p.m. on Monday. Mr Felix McGuire has been appointed by the Registrar under the Debtors and creditors Act to be trustee in the bankruptcy estate of Mr Charles Brown, publican, of Hawera, and has appointed Monday next, for the holding of an adjourned meeting of creditors at Hawera.
The Wanganui Chronicle says that Sheep Inspector Hickson’s district has been extended, and now runs from the Wangaehu on the South, to the Waingongoro on the North, and congratulates this district on the appointment made ; and while taking some little'credit to itself for having assisted, compliments shcepowners for the businesslike manner in which they set about remedying what they considered to be an abuse of patronage, and likely to prove hurtful to the distsict, viz., the appointment of Mr Hately, as Chief Sheep Inspector. The appointment of Mr Hickson will, no doubt, give unqualified satisfaction.
A general meeting of the Carlyle Football Club will be held at the Albion Hotel this evening. , Mr D. M. Warren, of Carlyle, notifies the general public that during the summer months his photographic studio will be open daily. Messrs J. Strachan Greig and Co, hold their regular fortnightly sale at Hawera at half-past one o’clock to-day. Two letters are unavoidably held over. About six o’clock yesterday morning, one of the Shetland ponies belonging to Mr G. F. Sherwood, which had been left in the patch of ground at the back of the dwelling-house, on Thursday night, was missing, and it was puzzling to know how the animal could have got away. Later on the pony was found down the well, vainly endeavouring to scramble up the sides. Help was soon procured, and after a deal of trouble, the Shetlander was brought to earth, and beyond nasty bruises on the fere legs, appears to be all right.
1 PATEA A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. 1 Tin; annual meeting oil the Patea District Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held in the Town Hail, Kakaramea, on Thursday last. Present : H. S. Peacock, Esq, Vice-President, (in the chair), Messrs Mcßae, 0. Hawes, W. Henderson, 0. Symes, W. Robertson, A. Hunter, H. Williamson, W. Bahni’orth, K. W. Foreman, R. E. Morgan, E. M, Honylield, R. B. Pearce, F. .1. Ganc, J. Ball, W. Dale, G. W. Gane, and J. G. Ginger. The Secretary (Mr William Dale) read the following Report, for the year ending hist July, 1877; <l The committee of the above Society have to report that during the past year, the annual show, parade of stallions, and ploughing match, have been held: that although the show could hardly be considered ns good as the previous one in the number of exhibits, yet taking the show on the whole, it was a good one for the district.
“ Tlie co’.mnittoe also consider that some definite plan for tlic more efficient collection of subscriptions, and obtaining new members, should be adopted, in order to keep pace with the growing requirements of the district. *• The question of holding the show in the spring instead of the autumn will be brought before the members at the annual meeting. “ The yearly balance sheet will bo laid before you showing a balance in Bank of: £SO 11s 9d. “ Under clause 4 of the rules of the Association, you will now bo called upon to elect a president, secretary, and committee for the ensuing year. “ W. Dale, Hon. Secretary.” On the motion of Mr Mcltac, seconded by Mr 11. Williamson, the Keport, as road, was adopted. It was proposed by Mr K. It. Morg-m, seconded by Mr llonyfield, and carried, il That the annua! show bo held in the spring instead of the autumn.” A motion by Mr Mcltac, seconded by Mr Foreman, ‘‘That the show be held in the month of March,” was lost. Mr Honyllehl ■was elected President; Mr Mcltac, Vice-President; and Mr John Gibson was re-elected Treasurer. Mr Dale having declined to allow himself to ho re-elected Secretary, it was resolved That the question of electing a Secretary be left for the future committee to decide. The following gentlemen were appointed a committee for the ensuing year —A. Johnstone, W. Ncwland, T. Mason, 0. Symes, 11. Williamson, O. Hawes, 11. S. Peacock, D. 11. Williamson, W. Balmforth, J. Morton, A. Hunter, J. McMichael, S. S. Broadbent, K. U, Morgan, D. Coutts, J. Dickie j tin., J. Nicholson, and A. Dasent. On the motion of Mr Balmforth, seconded by Mr Peacock, Messrs G. W. Gane, and J. G. Ginger, wore appointed auditors. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the business.
