NATIVE MOVEMENTS.

The Auckland litraid says;—A private letter from Yfaiuku was shown to us from an old settlor there, who fully confirms the statements in our leading article, respecting the departure of the iVu-ndly natives fro n tnat clisM’iot for C.flC King country. The natives are leasing their land at Vvhuuku for long periods, and have therefore no intention of returning again. The writer thinks that the fear of confiscation, and the dread tf Kawhia Harbor being occupied, will keep the natives at To Kniti quiet and peaceable, and thar the advent of friendly natives will have a beneficial eiT'ct noon the Kingites. Since the death of Sir Donald McLean, the Maoris have begun to realise the fact that they cannot obtain lood and money from the Government so readily and easily as they did before that event; and they now see that it is necessary to lease their lands, or else to cultivate them, in order to obtain food. The policy of the King party is one of determined hostility to either leasing or selling land, but is in favour ox cultivation.
