GARD WORK.
{To the Editor of the Patka Mail.)
Sik,—ln a late issue a Waverley Sett'en who, without. wishing to be impe-iinenti must have left his hoi so (_Patea) for the night. I see he objects to Mr S. being criticised. Now, all public men must expect tins. Waverley Settler says Mr S. devotes more time to public business than any other man. Allowing such to be the case, I don't see why he should be very busy, after presiding at the different Boards. Patca County Council should get so oathing in velum for a c*erk at £250 per annum. I imagine the chairman has simply to dictate and it is done. Town Board clerk, £SO; this should be the same. Harbour Board clerk, £3O per annum, and when anything extraordinary, a trip to Wellington, and £2O for himself. I don’t sec that Mr S., with this staff, should be so severely worked. In fact he ought to have plenty of time on hand without materially encroaching on his own private business.—l am, &e. HUMBUG.
