An engagement took place oif the Peruvian coast between the British warships Shah, and Amethyst, and the Iluisca, turret ram ; the latter escaped after dark, but so damaged as forced to surrender to the Peruvian squadron. Her crew had joined the revolutionary president and committed piratical acts on British subjects. A German surgeon from Ardahan reports, that, after capturing the fortress the Russians plundered every house, violated every woman, and set hie to the hospital, burning wounded soldiers alive.
