ROAD GRANT.

(To the. Editor of the Patea Mail.)

Pra.—l noticed a letter in the Wanganui nenih? of May 30th, under the 1 leading of l; Imperfect Abolition.’’ 1 wish the writer of that letter had gone a lil Ile more into the matter of the £IOO grant held by the Batea. East I toad Board. What this august body arc doing in withholding the money so long I am at a loss to miderstaud. The Board obtained the 10-) from the Government more than a year ago. as pari of the proceeds from the sale of land near the province line. The £IOO was asked for and obtained for opening roads to enable those who bought in Hint locality to settle on their land.

I think, si l ', a very great, injustice has been done to in not making a road to enable us to reach our places of abode without endangering our lives.

It is fortunate for those members cornprising the Board who already have good roads to their homesteads, and still more fortunate for any one of thorn who could obtain the sum of £3O to be spent in lowering a cutting (which was a very good i'oad before the cutting was made). Where is the justice in not spending the £IOO and giving us uur rights? Where is our would-be J.P., ex-champion of the the people’s rights who boasts of leading the men of Bradford to the heights? This patriotic individual can now only see one road, viz., the one leading to his own place and that not beyond its own boundary. Hoping the spirit of charity will come over the Board, and that it will be. led to believe there are outsiders who require attention in road matters.—l am, &c.
