COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING.

(To the Editor of the Patisa Mail.)

Sir, —Your report of the County Council meeting was somewhat meagre. One would think from your report that all was rose water, instead of a small bear garden both before and after dinner—and aftcu»a feed a man’s tongue is supposed to be loosened ; but I presume our Councilmen are not bottle men, or I think something noisy would have been the result. I see the chairman pledged himself for inquiry into Joyce’s complaint, and then afterwards wanted to shirk it. I see also that another resolution was made extraordinary business—that is, it was shirked for the sitting. From what I hear, it is pretty evident the Councillors have got a man in the chair that they would be well cleared of. One would imagine the Council to be an arena for the discussion of private affairs, judging by the subjects which have been brought forward. Of course it can’t be helped if the chairman will mix things. If a man goes to the Council on business, like Joyce did, he expects to be allowed to transact business peaceably, and not for the chairman to begin jawing about some private deal—paltry “ taters.” Have the moral courage, Councillors, to do away with what is troublesome, and put a man in the chair—-a business man—and you will save £SO per annum in kerosene, besides the satisfaction of doing what is right. If the salary is too small, give £IOO per annum, and do away with this state of affairs, which is now becoming a laughing stock for the whole community.— I am, &c., WATCH DOG.
