PATEA EDUCATIONAL RESERVES

On the 28th June, 1876, there was laid on the table of the House of Representatives a “ Return, showing the number of Educational Reserves, general and provincial, throughout the Colony, specifying the 1 Province in which such are situated, the acreage of eacli reserve, and, if leased or open for sale, upon what terms.” A copy of the above report has been received from the Government Printer, from which the following, referring to Educational Reserves in Patea, has been taken ; Carlyle—Of eleven town sections, comprising 2 acres 2 roods 30 perches, four have been let for 21 years, and bring in a rental of £6 per annum. The remainder are not leased. Suburban land—Section 40, containing 6 acres 5 perches, has been let for 7 years, at £lO 13s per annum ; section 41, containing 5 acres 2 roods 16 perches, is not leased ; section 42, containing 5 acres 2 roods 16 perches, has been let for 7 years, at £ll 16s per annum ; section 69, containing 240 acres, has been let for 21 years—first 7 at £57 9s 6d, second 7 at £B4 14s, and third 7 at £l2B Is per annum. The total annual rental now being obtained for Carlyle Educational Reserves amounts to £BS 18s 6d. Hawera—All the reserves for the above township have been let as follows ; Section 189, consisting of 40 acres 2 roods 36 perches, for 21 years, at £36 per annum ; section 211, consisting of 59 acres 2 roods, for 21 years, at £4l 13s per annum ; section 184, consisting of 10 acres 3 roods 9 perches, for 14 years, at £l2 7s 6d per annum ; section 545, consisting of 71 acres 2 roods 34 perches, for 14 years, at £35 7s per annum ; section 546, consisting of 29 acres 2 roods 34 perches, for £lO 7s 6d per annum ; section 557, consisting of 36 acres 20 perches, for 14 years, at £l9 17s 6d per annum ; giving a total annual rental of £165 12s 6d. Waverity—Two town sections, comprising 2 acres, not yet leased. Kakaramea—Town Belt, 112 acres- 3 roods 28 perches, let for 14 years, at £B6 11s per annum. Mokia—Town Belt, 69 acres, 1 rood, 13 perches, let for 21 years at £4l 12s per annum. Ohawe—Town Belt, 86 acres 1 rood, let for 21 years, at £ll 7s 6d per annum.

Whenuakura—Section 67, consisting' of 19 acres 39 perches, not leased. Waihi—Section 46, Patea District, consisting of 51 acres, not leased. Manutahi—Section 9, 10a. C. settlement, consisting of 3 acres 28 perches,, not leased.

Okotuku—Section 449, consisting of 88 acres, not leased. Since the Return was compiled possibly some of the reserves may have boen let.
