Weather favorable for the races, and the attendance promises to be very large during the afternoon. The first event was the Hurdle Race, of 80 sovs; two miles and distance Eclipse was scratched. Kildare was favorite, and won after a splendid race with Banjo, which was second ; Zetland was a bad third. Time, 4 min 454 sec.
Dunedin Jockey Club Handicap, of 200 soys; If miles. All the horses were scratched except Punga, Guy Fawkes, Templeton, and Cloth of Gold. The result was as follows—Guy Fawkes, 1 ; Templeton, 2 : Cloth cf Gold, 3. Time, 3 min 23f sec. The Derby, If miles— Puriri, I*, Danebury, 2 ; Hippocampus, 3. Novel' Race, of 100 soys ; If miles. Haphazard, 1 ; Flying Beauty, 2; Merrybird, 3.
