GOVERNMENT AGENCY.
(TO Til IC KDIToU OF TIIK TATKA MAIL.) Sin—Mr Cowern, in notifying' that road rates are to be at once paid, signs himself Government Agent. Can yon inform the public what Government Mr C. is agent for? I don’t think either the Road Boards or County Council can claim the title of Government. Provincial Government there is none (at least it is supposed so). If, then, the General Government is obliged to keep an agent to collect rates, &c., it must be admitted that we arc entrusted with local Government with a vengeance. As tho public, of whom I am one, arc rather confused as to who the governing powers are just at present, I hope that a satisfactory solution of tho above may % be forthcoming.- 1 -! am, &c., CRITIC. Kakaramea, March 12.
