The Taranaki Herald Bays: —There is great talk going on amongst the natives repsecting the meeting to bo held at the end of next month at the Waitara, and at which the Waikato natives are expected to be present in large numbers. The natives to the south do not approve of it, and it is not expected that any from Parihaka will attend. Sir Julius Vogel arrived at Liverpool on the 9th December, in the Cunard liner ‘ Russia ’ from New York, having, had the rising young politician, the Earl of Rosebery, as one of his fellow-passengers. The correspondent of the Otago Thwl remarks—“ Of course Sir Julius has yet had time to make his presence felt at his head-quarters.
