CARLYLE TOWN BOARD.

The adjourned mooting’ of the above Board was held on Monday evening last. Present —Messrs. Sherwood (Chairman), Williams, Milroy, Rhodes, and Hirst. The minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed.

CORRESPONDENCE Letter from MrTaplin requesting' Board, to point out the requisite boundary for verandah which he is about to erect. Letter from the. Chairman of the Town Board to Mr Campbell, late Town Clerk, expressing the sympathy of the members of the Board in his illness, and requesting him to allow the Board to appoint some person to fulfil his duties during his illness. Letter from Mr J. Johnson, requesting a settlement of his claim against Town Board. Proposed by Mr Williams, seconded by Mr McCarthy —That Mr Taplin’s request be granted. Carried. Proposed by Mr Williams, seconded by Mr Rhodes—That an advertisement bo inserted in the Patea Mail notifying that the Board will meet on Monday, the 27th November, to hear objections to the ratepayers’ roll. Carried. Proposed by Mr Milroy, seconded by Mr Williams—That Mr Harris and Mr Cowern be appointed assessors under the Board for the current year. Carried. Some discussion took place as to the amount to be allowed for this purpose, which terminated in a resolution that the amount should not exceed £2 each. Proposed by Mr Hirst, seconded by Mr Rhodes—That applications be called for by two advertisements in the Patea Mail for the position of Town Clerk, at a salary of £25 per annum. Proposed by Mr McCarthy, as an amendment —That Mr D. M. Harris bo appointed Clerk, pro iem. to the Town Board, at the same rate per annum as the late Mr Campbell. The Chairman remarked that in all probability changes of considerable moment would take place in tbe Board, and that it would be advisable to appoint some person for the time being. A division was called for after the passing of the amendment, which resulted in the same being carried. Proposed by Mr Milroy, seconded by Mr Williams—-That the appointment of Mr Harris, as Town Clerk, date from the 20th Nov. instant. Carried. Sanitary report of Scrgt. Whelan, read. The following accounts were passed for p tyment : —Malcolm. Campbell, £6 3s 4d ; vV. Cowern, £1 Is ; F. Smith, £2 2s ; Patea Mail, £1 4s ; J. Gibson, 13s Gd ; J. Keep, £4 Is ; W. "Williams, £1 15s ; J. Johnson, £2B Os 7£d ; W. Aitchison, £1 18s. Mr Hammerton’s account was left over for further consideration. Meeting adjourned till Monday, 27th instant.
