CRICKET MATCH.
Married v Single. The cricketing season was opened on Saturday last by a match being played, mar ried v single, which resulted in a victory for the single. Dr. Croft, Messrs. Tennent and Taplin did their side good service, and showed they had not forgotten their old form. Messrs Jacomb and Hankins batted well for the single, and the former succeeded in taking nine wickets in the first innings. This match brought to light several dark horses in the bowling line, who with steady training will become hot favorites and creditably fill the vacancies caused by the departure of Messrs McKay Arundell and Hobson. Wo wish our local clubs every success, and we trust lo see that interest taken in the whole game which it so richly merits. We would remind our cricketing folk that we will soon have an All-England Eleven in New Zealand, and who knows but our district might be called on to furnish one or two representatives.
