Those interested in our turf register, will be glad to learn that a son of the recently deceased Mr Charles Elliott intends continuing the publication of the “ New Zealand Stud Book” and the “New Zealand Turf Register,” and that the first volume of the latter work will probably make its appearance during the present month. Wasting Words.—When a Western editor is in a hurry, he doesn’t waste -words by saying “ it rained.” He simply writes — £! After many days of arid dessication, the vapoury captains marshalled their thundering hosts, and poured out upon scorching humanity and the thoroughly incinerated vegetation a few inches of aqua pluvialis." Captain Kennedy, R.N., in his “ Sporting Adventures in the Pacific,” states that tho following receipt was found upon the person of the proprietor of a Californian drinking saloon “ For whiskey—Ten gallons of kerosene, 31b. of potash, one' ounce of strychine, mixed with soft water. If gin is required, add quantum svjjicit of oil of juniper.”
