SPECIAL.

[per press agency.] PAELIA ME NT A BY. RESIGNATION OF SIR J. VOGEL AS PREMIER. MAJOR ATKINSON SENT FOR TO FORM A NEW MINISTRY. Wellington, August 29. When the House resumed to-day, The Premier announced in abrief speech that he had resigned the Premiership, and had requested the Governor to send for Major Atkinson. The reason he gave was failing health, and the imperative duty he owed his family, and the necessity of looking after his private affairs. On coming'from England, he told his colleagues that ho could not remain long in the Colony. 'When he did this there was no prospect of a. vacancy in the AgentGeneralship. Within the last few* days his colleagues, knowing he would leave the Colony, suggested his acceptance of the Agent-Generalship. As he could not appoint himself, the office was still open, and a future Ministry uncompromised in any way.

Major Atkinson then informed the House that he had been sent for, and had asked till Thursday to enable him to form a new Ministry. He therefore asked that the House be adjourned till 7.30 on Thursday next. Messrs Rolleston and Andrew commented very severely upon the action of the Premier and Government. Mr Stout reprehended both speeches as out‘of place, and supported the adjournment. The House then adjourned.
